Judge rules Interstate Stream Commission violated act

A New Mexico district judge found in favor of former director of the Interstate Stream Commission, Norm Gaume. The judge ruled the ISC violated the Open Meetings Act when it approved two multimillion dollar contracts for the Gila River Diversion Project in closed meetings.

Both Gaume and the Interstate Stream Commission are seeking reimbursement of attorneys fees from the opposing party. The ISC’s SLAPP lawsuit (Strategic Lawsuit Against Public Participation) against Gaume has sparked outrage. Norm Gaume’s attorney Brian Egolf stated, “I am unaware of any other time in the history of New Mexico when the government has pursued an individual citizen for a SLAPP suit type of recovery.”
